Leap Wallet is officially shutting down on May 28, 2026. After this date, all Leap products — including browser extension, mobile apps, and web interfaces — will no longer function, even if they are already installed on your device.
Until the deadline, the wallet remains operational. Users can still access balances, send tokens, manage staking positions, and most importantly, export their seed phrase or private keys. However, the team explicitly recommends completing migration early to avoid last-minute issues and ensure uninterrupted access to assets.
No — your crypto is not stored in Leap Wallet.
Leap is a non-custodial wallet, which means your assets live on the blockchain, not inside the app. The wallet interface is just a tool to access them. As long as you have your seed phrase (recovery phrase) or private key, you retain full control over your funds.
This is the key concept:
your crypto is tied to your wallet address, and your seed phrase is what gives you access to that address. Even after Leap shuts down, you can restore the same wallet — with the same balances — in any compatible wallet simply by importing your seed phrase.

One of the most common mistakes during wallet shutdowns is trying to manually transfer funds to a new wallet. In this case, it’s unnecessary.
When you import your seed phrase into another wallet, you are not creating a new address — you are restoring the same one. Your balances, tokens, NFTs, and even staking positions remain exactly where they are on-chain.
This means:
Migration is simply regaining access, not moving funds.
The recovery process starts with one critical step — securing your seed phrase from Leap Wallet. Without it, you won’t be able to restore access after the shutdown. Before migrating, you need to export your recovery phrase from the wallet.
Your seed phrase is the only way to restore access to your wallet. Never share it with anyone and avoid storing it in screenshots, notes, or cloud services. Once you have your seed phrase saved, you’re ready to restore your wallet in a new app and regain full access to your assets.

Migration is not just about importing one wallet — many users have multiple accounts, different seed phrases, or use private keys and hardware wallets. Each case needs to be handled correctly to avoid missing access to funds.
If you created several wallets inside Leap, they may not all share the same seed phrase. Each wallet can have its own recovery phrase, which must be exported and imported separately. Skipping this step is one of the most common reasons users “lose” access after migration.
A seed phrase typically restores multiple addresses, while a private key usually controls a single address. If you added wallets using private keys, you need to export and import each key individually into your new wallet.
If you used Ledger or Keystone, no migration of funds is required. Simply connect your hardware wallet to another compatible interface, and you’ll regain access to the same addresses and assets.

The shutdown date is fixed, so preparation matters. Waiting until the last moment increases the risk of access issues or missed steps.
Before May 28, make sure you:
Taking these steps early ensures a smooth transition and prevents unnecessary stress as the deadline approaches.
Once you’ve exported your seed phrase, the next step is choosing a wallet where you can restore access and continue managing your assets without disruption.
In practice, you need a wallet that:
Several wallets can replace Leap depending on your use case:
Each of these works well within its own ecosystem. However, if you were using Leap across multiple chains, switching to a single-ecosystem wallet may limit how you manage assets going forward.
A straightforward next step is restoring your wallet in Atomic Wallet.
It supports multi-asset management across different ecosystems and allows you to quickly regain access by importing your seed phrase — without moving funds or changing addresses.

Once imported, your funds, tokens, and supported assets will be available in the interface. If something doesn’t appear immediately, it can usually be enabled manually — your assets remain on-chain.
After importing a seed phrase, your assets remain onchain, but they may not always be immediately visible in the wallet interface. In most cases, this is a display or configuration issue rather than a loss of funds.
If you don’t migrate before May 28, 2026, your assets are still safe — but access becomes less convenient.
After the shutdown, all Leap apps and interfaces will stop working. You won’t be able to open the wallet or interact with it directly, even if it’s already installed. However, nothing happens to your funds on-chain.
To regain access, you’ll simply need to import your seed phrase or private key into another compatible wallet. The only risk is operational — if you don’t have your recovery credentials saved, you won’t be able to restore access later.
This is why exporting and securing your seed phrase before the deadline is critical.
Leap Wallet shutting down does not mean losing your crypto — it means losing access to one interface.
As long as you have your seed phrase, your assets remain fully under your control. Migration is simply the process of restoring that access in another wallet, not moving funds or creating new addresses.
The key steps are straightforward: secure your recovery phrase, choose a compatible wallet, and import it before the deadline. Doing this early ensures uninterrupted access and avoids unnecessary risks as May 28 approaches.
In a non-custodial setup, the rule remains the same: control the seed phrase — control the crypto.
